How PEMF Therapy Can Stop Your Pain
Pulse Electro Magnetic Field Therapy has been around since the late 1970’s to treat pain in both animals and humans. While PEMF initially was used to treat horses, it was approved for use on humans in 1979 by the FDA for use on non-union and delayed union fractures. In the late 1980’s it was approved for treatment of pain and soft tissue repair.
In 2006, the FDA approved PEMF Therapy for the treatment of depression and anxiety.
NASA began using PEMF Therapy in 2009 to enhance tissue repair and find methods to reverse bone loss by astronauts in space.
In 2011, the FDA approved PEMF Therapy for treatment of brain cancer.
PEMF has been used for various bone and tissue treatments for the past 50 years, but it remains a somewhat mysterious method of healing in the medical world. While electromagnetic pulse therapy is FDA approved, many devices on the market today are not technically FDA approved. The reason being that the technology is continually advancing, and each change to the technology would require a new FDA approval (which is VERY expensive).
Most PEMF companies (including Nimbus Performance) stay away from FDA headaches and instead market their products like health and wellness devices without any “healing” claims. We can’t claim “healing” results for CM2 technology, but we can provide user testimonials and lab results from our tests of the technology. We firmly believe PEMF therapy can reduce pain in a variety of ways.
The Two Types of Pain
There are two main types of pain – acute and chronic.
Acute pain is usually related to a traumatic event and lasts less than 3-6 months. This pain could be from something like a sprained ankle, paper cut, or broken bone. This pain is usually a sharper and more intense pain.
Chronic pain is when you experience discomfort for months or even years after an injury. Chronic pain can also be tied to arthritis or another disease. Chronic pain is usually less painful than acute pain but can have a lasting effect on your day-to-day life and mental health.
PEMF Therapy has been shown to provide relief for many types of chronic pain.
Chronic pain is usually associated with small nerve networks trapped in a sequence of constant inflammation. PEMF Therapy can subdue the nerve responses and facilitate recovery. Many people who have arthritis, lumbar stenosis, tendinitis, or other ailments have found relief with electromagnetic therapy.
In many cases, these types of chronic pain are a result of inflammation as was mentioned. Inflammation is a natural and essential part of the healing process, but many times the body over-corrects causing unnecessary swelling which increases pain and delays the healing process. PEMF Therapy helps stimulate the red blood cells to move them through the tissue efficiently reducing the effects of swelling. The most exciting findings with PEMF Therapy and pain are the nervous system’s response to the treatment.
Studies have shown that PEMF Treatment can be used anywhere along the nervous system for pain relief. For example, the pain signal for a sprained ankle would travel from the foot all the way up to the brain through the central nervous system. PEMF Therapy could be applied anywhere along the system to reduce the brains pain response.
These findings suggest that the best use of PEMF Therapy for pain is to simultaneously use it at the source of the injury as well as anywhere along the nervous system to the brain. The CM2 web works excellently as a localized PEMF treatment at the spot of pain. The CM2 band helps diminish pain along the central nervous system.
The amount of pain reduction from PEMF Therapy varies depending on the individual and the extent of the injury. It has been found that the sooner PEMF therapy is used, the better the results.
PEMF Therapy will not remove 100% of the pain. In most cases, people report a 25-30% reduction of pain from using PEMF Therapy which is gratifying for most individuals.
Dr. Andrew Weil conducted a study at the Baylor College of Medicine and found that 76% of patients with joint or muscle pain reported a decrease in pain as a result of PEMF Therapy treatments. There are many studies available that provide evidence of magnetic therapy reducing pain, especially among chronic sufferers.
Some of the most common sources of chronic pain can be reduced by using PEMF Therapy:
- Low back painArthritis
- Multiple Sclerosis
Daily PEMF Therapy for Chronic Pain
Our recommendation for treatment of chronic pain is to use the CM2 Web for 30 minutes twice daily at the most potent source of the pain.
The CM2 Web produces a cloud of magnetic therapy using a safe frequency around the source of pain and is a great way to treat localized pain. A 30-minute treatment in the morning and another 30-minute treatment in the evening will help diminish the effects of chronic pain.
We also encourage everyone to consider using the CM2 band daily as an overall health boost for your red blood cells. The band will help stimulate your cells as they circulate throughout your body during the day which promotes overall cellular health.
